Kickstarter has accepted my project proposal: Celebration & Preservation: With Attention to Detail! Now I have to create my video for drawing architecture throughout Alabama. If you have a favorite building (home, business, church) somewhere in the state I would love to know about it for possible inclusion. It doesn't have to be a historic landmark. I will be announcing soon when the project goes live on Kickstarter. If you are not familiar with Kickstarter, it works like this: you receive a reward for a pledge you make in support of my project. The more you pledge, the better the rewards. We both get a strong sense of satisfaction--you for making the project possible, me for being able to complete the project.

Puck at Alabama Shakespeare Festival

This is a nine foot bronze sculpture of Puck created by Elizabeth MacQueen on the grounds of Blount Cultural Park near the Alabama Shakespeare Festival here in Montgomery. This was a drawing commissioned for a wedding present.

This is page 12 in the current, January-February issue, of Alabama Magazine. It is part of their Alabama Insider section and was written by Jeff Barganier. I love the title they used: "Perfect Penmanship: A Montgomery Artist Captures Line and Light in Her Award-Winning Work." They did a great job and I thank them!

Great Horned Owl

This is part of a wall on an old estate that has been parceled and sold. The original owner named his home Rose Abbey, after his wife and daughter. I love the very dark shadows in the background and the bright sunlight on the rocks. Original Available

Angel & Ivy

This drawing is 10 3/4" x 8 1/8" and will be featured in my show at Stonehenge Gallery which opens on September 8th. The drawing is of 4th Presbyterian Church in Chicago, Illinois. Gorgeous ivy grows around its rich ornamentation. I love the deep shadows that are cast by the ornamentation and the ivy. The church is in the Gothic Revival style and was designed by architect Ralph Adams Cram. Cram's best known work is the Cathedral of St. John the Divine in New York City. The building combines the what Cram saw as the best of English Gothic and French Gothic styles. The cornerstone was laid in 1912 and the church was dedicated in 1914. Original Available

Strathmore Artist Papers Project

Strathmore Artist Papers has announced the new covers for the Bristol 500 drawing pads. This is the second drawing I created for Strathmore.

I was asked to create a pen-and-ink drawing for the Bristol 500 pads with “Plate” finish. I was given a line art copy of the Strathmore logo and asked to “make it my own”. I decided to create an architectural roundel of the logo with raised type and borders. Once again it was a pleasure working with the team at Strathmore Artist Papers. Strathmore Artist Papers Project

Strathmore Artist Papers announced, on April 13^th at the National Art Materials Trade Association annual meeting, the new features on Strathmore® fine art pads. “The 400 series fine art pads now feature the artwork created by a diverse group of professional artists. Each unique creation contains expressive imagery and the iconic Strathmore thistle.”

I was asked to create a pen-and-ink drawing for the 400 series pads with “Smooth” finish. I chose to draw a terra-cotta lion head mask because it has a powerful look that I thought would work well on the pad covers. We were asked to incorporate a version of Strathmore’s thistle logo into the artwork. I put the thistle on the bottom of the ring that hangs off of the lion’s mouth making it look like it is part of the original sculpture. This was an exciting project and it was a pleasure working with the team at Strathmore Artist Papers.

Strathmore will begin shipping the new pads to retailers on April 25th. Future website features about the artists behind each of the new pad covers will be found at: http://www.strathmoreartists.com/.

Shakespeare's Garden

Shakespeare's Garden is a drawing I was asked to create, along with 33 other artists, for "Masterpieces Center Stage: Artisitc Expressions Celebrating 25 Years of Shakespeare in Montgomery, Alabama." These art works will travel around the state beginning at the Berman Museum, Anniston, AL, the original home of the Alabama Shakespeare Festival, February 3-6. It will then travel to the Mobile Museum of Art, February 10-19; Littlehouse Gallery, Birminham, AL, February 24-March 5; Huntsville Museum of Art, March 24-27; and the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts, March 31-April 9. The art will be for sale and bids may be placed online. On April 25th a live auction will take place at Alabama Shakespeare Festival. What a wondeful way to celebrate!

Site of the Eagle

This eagle was originally on a tall cement poll on the corner of Dexter Ave. and Lawrence St. in downtown Montgomery. For many years there was a drugstore on that corner. When they advertised, they never used their address, they always said "At the site of the eagle."

This is a 4' x 4' drawing of a rural polling place on voting day. I chose not to put people in it because I believe that the piano, lounge chair, floral curtains and ballot machine gives a pretty good picture of the community of people who vote there. It was part of The Art of Democracy campaign to get people to register to vote. It took 8+ Sharpie Rub-a-Dub-Dub Laundry markers.

These five angels are drawings for Christmas ornaments the Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts asked area artists to create. Charles Voysey was an English architect during the Arts and Crafts Movement in England who also designed furniture with carvings on them including the angels which are the basis for these drawings.
